Frequently Asked Questions
Everything about iThenticate reports.
1. Why isn’t my paper added to the iThenticate database?
Thentify iThenticate is designed for analysis only, not storage. Your paper is never saved or added to the iThenticate database, no matter how many checks you run.
2. What does the % mean in my iThenticate AI report?
iThenticate may display *% when AI content is estimated between 1–19%, reflecting possible uncertainty. Scores of 0% or 20%+ are shown exactly. A *% is generally acceptable unless strict requirements apply.
3. Will my AI results match the institution’s or publisher’s results?
If your submitted paper matches the version checked on iThenticate, results should be similar. However, even small edits can affect AI scores, so rechecking after revisions is recommended.
4. Are references included in the similarity score?
No. iThenticate excludes reference lists from similarity calculations, in line with standard academic and publishing practices.
5. Why does iThenticate show a low AI score while other tools show high?
iThenticate applies conservative thresholds to reduce false positives. This helps ensure fair and reliable evaluation, even if writing tools were used during drafting.
6. What happens if I don’t download my report within 24 hours?
Reports are automatically deleted after 24 hours to protect your privacy. If you miss this window, the original report cannot be recovered, but a copy will be sent to your registered email.
7. Can I check a paper that has already been submitted to the official database?
Yes. However, if your paper is already in the official database, the similarity score may be higher. AI detection will still work normally.
8. Why is my paper flagged as AI-generated if I didn’t use AI tools?
AI detection is not perfect. Tools like Grammarly or paraphrasing tool, as well as highly formal writing, may trigger AI indicators. Simplifying complex phrasing can help reduce false positives.
9. Why do AI flags change after I edit my paper?
AI detection evaluates the entire document context. Changes in one section can affect results elsewhere, so previously unflagged text may later be flagged.
10. Which languages does Thentify support?
Thentify iThenticate supports similarity detection in 30+ languages, including English, Chinese, Spanish, German, and French. AI detection is currently available in English and Spanish only.
11. Why wasn’t my AI report generated?
AI reports may not generate if your document exceeds 29,999 words, is under 320 words, or is not in English or Spanish. Please adjust and resubmit your file.
12. Will my AI score always stay at 0%?
AI detection models are updated regularly. Your current 0% score may change with future updates, but this will not affect your existing submissions.
