FAQ

Common questions about using Thentify:

  • 1. Why isn’t my paper stored in any database?

Thentify is designed strictly as an academic plagiarism and AI detection tool, not a document repository. Your uploaded files are used only for analysis and are not stored, indexed, or added to any external academic database. This allows you to safely review your work multiple times without affecting its originality status.

  • 2. Can I check a paper that has already been submitted elsewhere?

Yes, you can upload and analyze previously submitted documents. However, if your paper already exists in an academic database (such as those used in publishing or academic-style systems), similarity results may appear higher due to existing matches. AI detection results will still function normally.

  • 3. What does the percentage mean in my AI report?

The “*%” symbol indicates that the estimated AI-generated content falls within the 1%–19% range. Since July 16, 2024, reports display “*%” instead of a specific number when the AI proportion is within this range. Interpretation: 0% → No AI-generated content detected 1%–19% → Displayed as “*%” 20% or higher → Exact percentage is shown This format is used because lower percentage ranges may have reduced measurement precision.

  • 4. Why is my writing flagged as AI-generated if I didn’t use AI tools?

AI detection evaluates writing patterns rather than tool usage. Certain characteristics may trigger AI indicators, including: Highly structured or overly formal phrasing Heavy paraphrasing Use of writing assistance tools (e.g., grammar or rewriting tools) To reduce false positives, consider simplifying complex sentences and maintaining a natural academic writing style.

  • 5. Will my results match journal systems?

Thentify provides analytical estimates based on detection patterns similar to those used in academic environments, including academic-level systems. If your document remains unchanged, results may be broadly comparable. However, differences may occur due to: Variations in databases Differences in detection models Even minor edits to your document For best consistency, we recommend rechecking your paper after any revisions.

  • 6. Why do AI scores change after editing my paper?

AI detection considers the full context of your document. Even small edits in one section can influence how other parts are evaluated, which may cause AI indicators to increase or decrease after revisions.

  • 7. Are references included in similarity detection?

No. Reference lists and bibliographies are typically excluded from similarity calculations, consistent with standard academic and publishing practices, including academic-style evaluations.

  • 8. Why do different tools show different AI scores?

Different platforms use different datasets, models, and detection thresholds. Thentify applies a balanced and conservative approach, similar to academic-grade systems, to reduce false positives while still identifying meaningful AI-related signals.

  • 9. Which languages are supported?

Thentify supports similarity detection across multiple major languages, including English, Chinese, Spanish, German, and French. AI detection is currently available for English and Spanish, with ongoing improvements planned.

  • 10. Why wasn’t my AI report generated?

AI reports may not be generated if your document: Exceeds the maximum word limit Is below the minimum word threshold Is written in an unsupported language Please adjust your document and try again.

  • 11. What happens if I don’t download my report in time?

To protect your privacy, reports are automatically deleted after a limited period. If you do not download your report within that timeframe, it cannot be recovered. However, a copy is typically sent to your registered email.

  • 12. Will my AI score always stay the same?

Not necessarily. AI detection models are continuously refined and updated. As a result, the same document may produce slightly different results over time. These updates do not affect any reports you have already generated.
